Coumadin tablets contain warfarin 2mg, an anticoagulant medication used to prevent thrombosis and thromboembolism in a variety of life-threatening conditions.
A thrombus is a blood clot inside a blood vessel. Sometimes blood clots break off and move to another part of the body such as the lungs (pulmonary embolism). Blood clots are a serious medical issue as they are involved in deep vein thrombosis, heart attacks and strokes. Coumadin is used to prevent these conditions.
The correct dosage will be decided in consultation with your doctor and will need monitoring by regular blood tests. Sometimes the dosage will need to be adjusted based upon the test results.
