Maxitrol is a combination antibiotic and corticosteroid in ointment form used to treat inflammatory eye conditions and to prevent or treat eye infections.
Maxitrol eye ointment contains the antibiotics, neomycin and polymyxin and the corticosteroid, dexamethasone. Maxitrol is used for any inflammatory eye condition where there may also be bacterial involvement.
The combination of two antibiotics means Maxitrol has broad spectrum activity against a range of bacteria involved in eye infection. Dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation and swelling.
Maxitrol eye ointment is applied to the conjunctival sac three to four times daily until symptoms are resolved as directed by your doctor.
