Symptoms of menopause include night sweats, hot flushes, vaginal atrophy, headaches, mood swings, inability to concentrate, loss of energy, insomnia, and osteoporosis.
Hormone replacement therapy is used to reduce the symptoms of menopause. An injection of estradiol valerate is absorbed slowly by the body over several weeks for a prolonged action.
Male-to-female transsexuals also are prescribed estradiol valerate injections so that they may develop breast tissue and other female sexual characteristics.
