Nizoral cream contains the broad-spectrum antifungal medication, ketoconazole 2% and is used to treat tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), ringworm, seborrheic dermatitis, and thrush.
Ketoconazole works by weakening the fungal cell wall membrane causing the cell contents to leak out thereby killing the fungus. Ketoconazole prevents the spread of fungal infections and associated symptoms such as redness of the skin, rash, itch, and scaling.
Hands should be washed both before and after a twice daily application of Nizoral cream and gently massaged into the affected area. Treatment should continue for 10 days after symptoms appear to have abated to prevent reinfection.
