Dostinex tablets contain cabergoline 0.5mg, a dopamine agonist used to treat conditions where prolactin levels are high and to suppress milk production after childbirth.
Sometimes it is necessary to suppress prolactin, a hormone whose main function is to induce and maintain milk production. Abnormally high levels of prolactin, known as hyperlactinaemia may cause changes in breast tissue in both men and women, cause impotence in men, and promote menstrual changes.
Dostinex is also useful in suppressing lactation in situations where this may be desirable for medical reasons.
