Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to anus. Crohn’s is thought to be an immune-related illness although the exact mechanism of its cause is not known. Symptoms include the frequent need to evacuate the bowels, watery, loose, and occasionally bloody motions, flatulence, and bloating.
Budesonide acts to reduce the inflammation seen in Crohn’s disease and to help relieve the symptoms which can be debilitating. Full effects of treatment are usually seen in two to four weeks’ time from initiation.
