Colofac tablets contain the antispasmodic medicine, mebeverine 135mg and is used to treat the painful symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and other similar conditions.
Mebeverine acts directly to relax uncontrolled and spasmodic muscle contraction in the intestines reducing the symptoms of painful cramping. Mebeverine reduces these unpleasant symptoms without interfering with normal intestinal motility.
Mebeverine blocks the action of the chemical messenger, acetylcholine that sends signals to nerve cells that control muscle spasm in the intestines.
Colofac is not recommended in pregnancy. It is expressed in low levels during lactation and although no adverse effects have been reported Colofac is not recommended for lactating women.
