Mercilon 28 contains 21 white tablets each containing ethinyloestradiol 20mcg and desogestrel 150mcg and 7 inactive tablets.
Mercilon 28 is considered a low dose combined oral contraceptive. It works by inhibiting the release of an egg, altering the thickness of the cervical mucus making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg and by changing the uterine lining making implantation of a fertilized egg more difficult.
