Diane-35 ED tablets are an oral contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy in women and to treat acne and excessive body hair (hirsutism).
Containing the antiandrogen, Cyproterone acetate 2mg and the oestrogen, Ethinylestradiol 0.035mg, Diane-35 helps to reduce excess male hormones (androgens) found in females. Diane-35 ED tablets contain 7 white inactive, placebo tablets containing lactose to assist women manage their daily compliance of taking one tablet per day at the same time each day.
Excessive androgen production in women can lead to hirsutism, acne vulgaris and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Diane-35 is indicated for women requiring oral contraception who need assistance in managing body hair, their complexion or PCOS. Additionally, male-to-female transsexuals may use Diane-35 as part of their transition and maintenance program.
Once acne has cleared up, it is recommended to continue for several months on treatment with Diane-35 before considering a switch to an alternative oral contraceptive.
