Bactrim Double Strength tablets contain sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, a combination of two antibiotics used to treat a range of bacterial infections. Bactrim DS may be the first-choice antibiotic for those with known allergies to penicillin-based antibiotics.
The active ingredients in Bactrim DS tablets work by blocking the biochemical pathway for the manufacture of bacterial protein and DNA, preventing the bacteria’s ability to reproduce.
Bactrim DS tablets are not suitable for those that are allergic to any of the ingredients or those that have kidney or liver disease or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The usual dose is one Bactrim DS tablet taken immediately after food taken twice daily for a course of at least five days depending on what is being treated.
