Augmentin oral suspension contain the antibiotic amoxycillin 25mg/ml combined with a β-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanic acid 6.25mg/ml. When clavulanic acid is added to amoxycillin it acts to overcome antibiotic resistance making Augmentin more effective than amoxycillin on its own.
Augmentin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a wide range of infections for individuals that have no penicillin allergies, such as urinary tract, sinus, blood, skin, and respiratory infections.
A 5 to 10ml dose is given immediately after food to protect the stomach, two to three times daily as an antibiotic course for 7-10 days or as prescribed by your doctor. Augmentin oral suspension is usually prescribed for children or for those that have difficulty in swallowing tablets.
