Augmentin tablets contain the antibiotic amoxycillin 500mg combined with a β-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanic acid 125mg. When clavulanic acid is added to amoxycillin it acts to overcome antibiotic resistance making Augmentin more effective than amoxycillin on its own.
Augmentin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a wide range of infections for individuals that have no penicillin allergies, such as urinary tract, sinus, blood, skin, and respiratory infections.
One tablet is taken immediately after food to protect the stomach, up to three times daily as an antibiotic course for 7-10 days or as prescribed by your doctor. Augmentin is suitable for bacterial infections but has no anti-viral activity.
